Rachel Hutson’s Story

Early on in my teaching career, students started describing me as a ‘hippy’. Hippy is a word that means different things to different people, so I’m never totally sure what my students mean when they describe me this way. It doesn’t offend me. I take it to mean that they see me as a nature-lover and that maybe I approach things in a more unique way. This is accurate, but I can tell there is an oversimplification occurring too.
While peacefulness is something I often strive for, so is fierce and bold courageousness.
I am less afraid of conflict than most and if it can lead to truth and peace,
I will take the path through fire.
